Sport Studies

Profile of the programme

The Bachelor's programme in Sport Studies (Dutch language version) comprises 240 ECTS (a propaedeutic phase of 60 ECTS, a main phase of 120 ECTS and a final phase of 60 ECTS). The student develops into an enterprising sports health management professional in a professional and inspiring learning environment. (Pre-)challenges (70 ECTS) and other practical components are an essential and mandatory part of this programme, as well as a graduation challenge (60 ECTS). In addition, the student largely shapes the study route himself through a flexible range of learning activities.

From the start of the programme, the student works on complex issues in the work field. Focus points are the three values of sport (the social, economic and health value). There is collaboration with teachers and other stakeholders on knowledge creation. During the programme, students work on assignments that matter and create impact in the work field. The propaedeutic phase consists of a pre-challenge (10 ECTS), a challenge (15 ECTS), compulsory (30 ECTS) and optional modules (5 ECTS).

The main phase offers more options for the student. In addition to a minor (30 ECTS) and challenges (45 ECTS), this phase consists of compulsory modules (25 ECTS) and optional
modules (20 ECTS). Examples of elective modules are: Sports business and development, Social and online marketing, Advanced sports coaching, Entrepreneurship in sports with target groups and Public and commercial financing of sports.

The minor (30 ECTS) can be chosen by the student and allows the student to delve deeper into a chosen field or broaden his/her general or subject-specific knowledge and skills. During the graduation challenge (60 ECTS), the student will work on a complex issue for a year for an organization in the professional practice of the Sport Health Management Professional. The goal is to graduate with impact
