Profile of the programme

This module covers topics such as private law, administrative law, criminal law, employment law, and social security law. This module is entirely dedicated to the application of law in the Netherlands. By completing assignments both within and outside your own professional practice, you immediately put what you have learned into practice.

The first period focuses on basic legal skills within both private and public law. What is meant by private law? Where can the law be found and how do you apply it? These are the central questions. Over a number of weeks, attention is paid to the legal system, the use of legal compendiums, and reading and understanding legal language. The substantive components of private law discussed are property law and the law of obligations.

In addition to gaining insight into Dutch law, you will also learn methods for solving (and identifying) various questions that may be relevant to arriving at a legal solution. In the first weeks, you will also be introduced to the most important topics of administrative law and criminal law. The course ‘Werkveldverkenning’ centers on learning to collaborate within a learning community. Together with fellow students, you will explore various organizations regarding interests, legal activities, and organizational characteristics. Communication in the professional field is also on the program: how do you communicate at a higher professional education (HBO) level in the professional field? All these components are assessed through an assessment.

In the second period of the module, the client takes center stage within employment law and social security law. Attention is also paid to gaining insight into human communication and behavior, as well as insight into your target group (the clients you will be dealing with). Greater insight into your target group ensures that you can be a better service provider and gain more control over your own actions as a professional. During the workshops ‘Gespreksvoering’, you will gain more insight into the structure and execution of an effective intake interview and into the various communication styles people employ. Attention is paid to the structure of an intake/advisory interview and the conversation techniques you can use to conduct an effective conversation. What is learned in the lessons is applied in a practice situation with a training actor. During classes ‘Gedrag’, the interests, motives, and backgrounds of people are explored in greater depth. In these lessons, you are both object and subject: you investigate people's behavior, and through this, you learn more about yourself as a professional, but also about the clients you will work with later.
