Profile of the programme

During the module, everyday legal situations are discussed with attention to the role of the legal aid. Which interests are involved? How can these interests best be represented? What positions do the parties take, and how can these be translated into legal procedures?
In the first period, the course Burgerlijk Procesrecht lays the foundation for conducting legal proceedings. How is the legal system structured, and which steps can you take? This knowledge can then be applied in practice. In the course Consument & Recht, you will work on a real-life dispute. The committee (‘geschillencommissie’) is introduced, addressing the interests of the parties involved and leading to an appropriate decision.
In the second period, law for rent and liability law take center stage. When a client, for example, has a disagreement with neighboring residents about a fence or when the rent price is too high, knowledge covered in the course Wonen & Recht is required. How can you respond to the client’s interests while also taking other parties into account? These aspects are also addressed in the course Aansprakelijkheid & Letsel. In this course, you will work with liability issues and related personal injuries, including traffic liability, medical liability, and product liability. You will examine the types of damages that may arise and how liability and financial responsibility are allocated.
In the course Procederen in Arbeidszaken, which runs as a continuous skills component throughout both blocks, you will explore dismissal law in greater depth. Various case studies are used to guide you through a dismissal procedure. In addition to drafting legal documents, attention is also given to oral skills, as it is sometimes necessary to negotiate with the opposing party or appear at a court hearing.
