Content

The course Theory provides a survey of the history of art. Taught as a combined thematic and chronological survey, the course covers major artistic and cultural periods and the ideas that are key to understanding these periods. Per cultural period, the student discovers the relationship between form, content and function through exemplary work by key artists.
Students develop basic skills in visual analysis, critical thinking and writing about art and visual imagery and are confronted with different approaches to visual and textual research.  Students also engage in contemporary debates on culture and art history.
