Content
On the basis of study tasks and the discussion of scientific articles, definitions and terms important to evidence-based practice will be covered. Physiotherapists are expected to examine and treat their patients in the best possible matter. A physiotherapist’s actions are also based on the norms and values of the specific patients, the clinical expertise of the individual therapist and the best available scientific evidence. This is known as evidence-based actions/evidence-based practice (EBP). In block 1.2 of the first year of the Groningen Physiotherapy programme students worked on the first steps of EBP, formulating answerable questions, searching for the best available evidence in the literature, and evaluating the level of evidence of the found literature. In block 1.4 students got practical training on how to conduct an assessment themselves and with the principles of method and statistics. To determine whether students master the ‘assessment’ competency at level 1, at the end of the first year a theory test will be taken on the concepts and activities that were discussed in block 1.2 as well as block 1.4 in the EBP approach.
