Learning outcomes

 
  • Students understand the main financial aspects and backgrounds of the six phases of the purchasing process identified by Van Weele and are able to use the financial and analytical instruments and concepts below correctly to assess purchasing situations.
  • Students are able to apply the Total Cost of Ownership method, Activity-Based Costing and the Net Present Value method to a non-complex issue derived from professional practice.
  • Students are able to analyse the purchasing processes within a given organisation (case study).
  • Students are able to assess the financial position of suppliers on the basis of financial ratios.
  • Students are able to analyse make-or-buy issues on the basis of non-complex financial data.
  • Students are able to analyse supplier portfolios and recommend possible improvements on the basis of a spend analysis.
  • Students are able to analyse and assess currency risks within a given context.
  • Students are able to analyse and assess offers on the basis of a given system.
  • Students are able to practice cost control through the medium of project management.
  • Students are able to determine optimum stocks and order sizes within a given context.
 
 

Content


Students acquire in-depth knowledge of the financial backgrounds to purchasing management, which they will need to complete the practical task for the second period and to start their careers as young purchasing professionals, among other things. Topics include Total Cost of Ownership (TCO) and Activity-Based Costing (ABC), the financial position of suppliers, cost reduction techniques in purchasing and the financial backgrounds of make-or-buy. Students learn to understand and apply the above subject matter and analyse and assess case studies that focus on this subject matter.
