Content
The course Harmony KM is aimed at learning to write, play and listen (in an analytical way) to the principles of polyphonic Western tonal music from the 17th century onwards. Writing will take place in a four-voiced setting (SATB).
Core activities of the course are: writing, playing, listening.
The lessons will be about: setting chords, voicing principles, dissonant treatment, figuration, ornamental tones, coding systems (continuo-notation, pedal computation and chord symbols).
HML in year 2 focuses on diatonic and only chromatic aspects of harmony (interim dominants, alterations within stages (VI, IV and II), vocal chords such as O 6/5, 4/3.
