The learning outcomes for the courses Clinical Medicine & Pharmacotherapy 1 to 7 are based on four of the seven CanMeds professional roles, namely:
Medical Expert:
- During curricular activities, the student demonstrates mastery of the knowledge needed to perform effectively in the role of medical expert.
- As a medical expert, the student independently carries out the diagnostic process for common ailments in a manner tailored to the health problems and treatment demands presented by patients.
- As a medical expert, the student can formulate a treatment proposal for common ailments that is tailored to the health problems and treatment demands presented by patients.
Communicator:
- During curricular activities, the student demonstrates mastery of the knowledge needed to perform effectively in the role of communicator.
- When conducting medical consultations in a practical training context, the student is able to independently record patient history and follow-up screening data in paper and/or electronic files.
- When conducting medical consultations, the student is able to independently discuss medical screening results using language that is understandable for patients and in accordance with the rules of professional communication.
Health Advocate:
- During curricular activities, the student demonstrates mastery of the knowledge needed to perform effectively in the role of health advocate.
- The student is capable of assessing the value of new developments and insights affecting their professional practice to promote the provision of health-driven, integral care.
- The student is capable of drawing on new developments and insights affecting their professional practice to promote the provision of health-driven, integral care.
- In the context of indicated and/or health care-related prevention, the student can independently expand a treatment process to promote patient health.
Professional:
- The student is able to act as an ethical independent professional in accordance with the medical, legal and professional obligations governing the profession.

Content
In addition to the course Behaviour and Communication, the course Clinical Medicine & Pharmacotherapy is part of the learning trajectory Medical Practice. In this course PHLM19KGFT1-P "Circulation & Respiration", cardiovascular and pulmonary patient problems are the central themes for learning the medical-diagnostic process. Through tutorials and practical training sessions students learn clinical reasoning and how to act. This includes the ability to logically justify and execute a pharmacotherapeutic treatment plan.
