Learning outcomes

The learning outcomes for the courses Clinical Medicine & Pharmacotherapy 1 to 7 are based on Two of the seven CanMeds professional roles, namely:

Medical Expert: 
  • During curricular activities, the student demonstrates mastery of the knowledge of the knowledge offered within the subjects of this course unit, needed to perform effectively in the role of medical expert.
  • As a medical expert, the student independently carries out the diagnostic process for common ailments in a manner tailored to the health problems and treatment demands presented by patients.
  • As a medical expert, the student can, within the subjects offered in this course unit, formulate a treatment proposal for common ailments that is tailored to the health problems and treatment demands presented by patients.

Health Advocate:
  • During curricular activities, the student demonstrates mastery of the knowledge needed to perform effectively in the role of health advocate.
  • The student is capable of assessing the value of new developments and insights affecting their professional practice to promote the provision of health-driven, integral care.

Content

In addition to the course Behaviour and Communication, the course Clinical Medicine & Pharmacotherapy is part of the learning trajectory Medical Practice.  In this course PHLM19KGFT6-T "Homeostasis", endocrinologic and hematologic patient problems are the central themes within the medical-diagnostic process. Through lectures, tutorials and practical training sessions students learn clinical reasoning and how to act as a professional, both preventive and curative. This includes the ability to logically justify and execute a pharmacotherapeutic treatment plan.
