Learning outcomes

After finishing this module the student can:
  1. Describe the data and document management process;
  2. Describe the role of CAD / CAM / CAE in the design and production process;
  3. Describe the information flow and the production planning of a production organization;
  4. Describe the role and functionalities of PLM/PDM systems within a company;
  5. Describe the role and functionalities of an ERP system within a company;
  6. Describe the importance, trends and elements of Industry 4.0 – Industrial Internet of Things.

Content

Within a company, information is used in various ways to achieve a working and controllable (production) process. The students will learn about the different information systems. These are the systems where the product, process and business related data will be collected in order to generate information and share it within the business.
In more details: data and documentation management, product document management (PLM), Enterprise Resource Planning (ERP) systems and Industrial Internet of Things (IIoT).
The main part of this course is formed by theory about information models and database systems in (production) companies.
