Learning outcomes
After the course the student is able to:
- independently acquire in-depth knowledge about the plant biotechnological case via a literature study.
- apply their gained knowledge efficiently, effectively, creatively to a biotechnological problem.
- engage oneself in working efficiently in a team.
- handle feedback, give feedback, and self-reflect on the progress of team effort.
- present the case study orally in a public ‘TED talk’ and in a written report.
Content
In this finale course in the minor Biotechnology, Biotechnology of Plants, students will work in groups of three to four students on a case study concerning a plant biotechnological topic. For example: plants as chemical factories, molecular farming of proteins/ antibodies in plants, metabolic engineering of bioplastics, sustainable food production, improving plant resistance to diseases, abiotic stresses etcetera. The students will be challenged to come up with their own creative solution and innovative ideas to conquer the case. Each group will deliver a public TED talk of max.18 min and a written report of at least 20 pages about the topic.
