Learning outcomes

Afer the course has been completed the student can:
  •  Plot graphs with a spreadsheet program;
  •  Analyse protein sequence from multi-fasta files (batch analyses);
  •  Align protein sequences with Clustal X;
  •  Simulate In sillico cloning a cloning process with several fusion tags, such as a His-tag and GFP-tag;
  •  Create overlays and movies from microscope pictures;
  •  Format documents using a word-processor and process references/creating a reference list using reference software;
  •  Design primers for a PCR;
  •  Analyse a dataset using a simple self-written script.
  •  Study protein structures with PyMol

Content

Level: Intermediate (2)

Content:

In the Bioinformatics 3 course a wide palette of more complex digital skills will be introduced that are relevant for a lab technician. These digital skills include analyses of many protein sequences at once, use complex cloning strategies in silico and create plots in a spreadsheet program. You will learn to design primers for PCR and CRISPR-Cas experiments and you will learn to create overlay pictures and movies from microscopic pictures. Protein structures will be studied in detail using PyMol. Finally, an introduction to programming to analyse data is offered.
