Learning outcomes
This module has the following learning outcomes:
You name various types of lipids and their functions.
You draw and describe the structure of proteins, lipids, DNA and RNA.
You classify enzymes and describe the factors that influence enzyme activity.
You describe the following processes: translation, transcription, PCR, DNA mutations.
You gain theoretical understanding and practical experience with the molecular processes involved in composting biodegradable substances.
You delve into an experiment and/or project in a group according to the scientific method and give advice for sustainability (PI - Professional Identity).
You give an attractive and structured poster presentation about the project for fellow students and teachers (PV = Personal Skills).
You form, through the information elective modules and the coffee table, an image of your further course of study (PI = Professional Identity), and reflect on the course of study and the study experience during a mentor lesson and a personal mentor conversation (PO = Personal Development).

Content
This module is an introduction to biochemistry, covering the structure and function of proteins, enzymes, lipids, DNA and RNA. Theory is covered in 14 instructional lectures. There is also a practical, where protein folding and denaturation are investigated. Furthermore, the module includes the Biobased Chemistry project, where small groups work on a practical assignment related to sustainability in the lab. The project is completed with a poster (PV). Mentoring activities focus on personal development (PO) and professional identity (PI).
