Are you considering starting to give lessons on your instrument but wonder how to plan lessons? How to give create a supportive learning environment for your pupil or give effective feedback in music lessons? How to choose and create learning material? In this module, students are introduced to music pedagogy as a building platform for developing well-informed teaching strategies. Students will develop an understanding of basic pedagogical knowledge that they learn to apply in one-to-one lessons with a pupil on their main instrument. The students are informed about central pedagogical concepts, learn to critically evaluate teaching methods and schools, and explore the interpersonal dimensions of a teacher-student relationship. Through continuous self-reflection, students keep deepening their pedagogical awareness and professional identity as a music educator. The students participate in music pedagogical discussions during group lessons, where they share footage of their own teaching practice for peer advice. The students will present their learning outcomes and a pedagogical portfolio, which they have created during the course in form of a portfolio presentation. Furthermore, they will demonstrate their practical music pedagogical approaches in a final celebration with their pupil. Assessment is based on the completed teaching practice of 8 weeks, 80% attendance in the group meetings, as well as a portfolio presentation and a final demonstration.
