Course: Orchestra Playing 1 credits: 2

This module introduces students to the skills and knowledge necessary to be a competent orchestra musician. Many students want to get a job in a professional orchestra. This elective will help you improve your orchestra playing skills and provide you with insight information about how orchestras work in the changing professional practice. What are the current competences needed for the orchestra musician?
Next to 10 individual lessons (30 minutes each) with a main instrument teacher of your own choice from school, the concertmaster of ‘Het Gelders Orkest’, the general manager of ‘Het Rotterdams Philharmonisch Orkest’ and the education coordinator of ‘Het Gelders Orkest‘ will work with you.  There will be three group meetings/lessons (3x2 hours) about the do’s and don’ts in the orchestra, audition, today’s orchestra and orchestra&education. At the end you’ll play an actual audition and receive  feedback from professional orchestra musician/teachers from school.
