This module teaches the basics of Improv - a theatre genre in which characters, dialogues, and scenes are all created on the spot based on simple suggestions. In order to do this, improvisers need to learn how to be in the moment and how to react to each other’s ideas by building upon them, instead of blocking them. The result of an Improv scene is always unexpected; and it is by dealing with the unexpected and finding ways to react to it positively that we can become adaptive, resilient, spontaneous, and creative – core elements to become a better performer!

Exploring this genre through games and applying the same skills to improv musical games, students understand the connection between these two performing realms, and learn the importance for musicians to work on their active listening, communication skills (through physicality, words, or music), acceptance of “mistakes”, and self and mutual trust.
