2. The Craft: The musician maintains a wide range of technical knowledge and skills that enable him to function both within the national international professional context.

Content

This course is made up of 4 'boxes':
  1. Form (as used in Jazz and popular music, including forms such as AABA and Verse/Chorus)
  2. Harmony (insight into the workings of mainly Functional Harmony)
  3. Melody (analysis of melodic practice in Jazz and Pop music, mainly 1945-1970)
  4. Rhythm (learning a basic method of analyzing phrase length in relation to hyper-measure)
 In addition there will be a final essay comprising an analysis of a classic performance of the student's choice.
