Learning outcomes
Students mainly develop in the field of professional and artistic competence, specifically for Composition. The assignments can be seen as "finger exercises" in which a wide variety of composition techniques and methods are trained. The student makes a start by discovering his or her own "voice", for example by thinking about form and content when working with relatively abstract material.
Content
In connection with the CTS 20th century course, students are introduced to a cross-section of 20th-century music and the associated compositional techniques. The average CMS student will be relatively unfamiliar with this material. For most assignments, the student does not benefit from the already present "skill" in composing and sticking together "good-sounding" and melodious pieces. He must, as it were, start all over again with only his musicality, his intelligence and his musical intuition as a tool. This cleans, broadens the horizon and opens up a huge potential of possible perspectives, which the student can also take advantage of in the other CMS main subject.
