Proficiency 1 and the subsequent Proficiency 2 will help you improve all aspects of your English use, including speaking, writing, reading, listening, grammar, and vocabulary. The goal of the two courses is to help you achieve at least an IELTS 6.5 level in English, which is required to follow an English-language master at the Hanze. This level translates to a minimum B2/C1 level in the Common European Framework of Reference, so in between B2 and C1. This means that you will be able to use English not only for social purposes, but also for academic and professional purposes. The actual level reached may be higher, and this also depends on the starting levels of individual students. By the end of Proficiency 1, you are expected to achieve at least an IELTS 6 level in English (B2 CEFR level), and by the end of Proficiency 2 you are expected to achieve at least an IELTS 6.5 level (B2/C1 level) in English.
