Learning outcomes

You apply Lambert-Beer's law in practical and in theoretical cases and name the limitations of Lambert-Beer's law.
- You describe the absorption process of electromagnetic radiation in molecules and atoms.
- You describe the basic principles of chromatography.
- You calculate separation parameters from a chromatogram.
- You describe and explain the effect of polarity of the stationary, mobile phase and analyte.
- You name and describe the components of spectroscopic and chromatographic systems.
- You apply the acquired theoretical knowledge about chromatography and spectrometry in an independent, safe and responsible way while performing a simple experiment, and communicate about this with a logbook and/or results form according to the applicable guidelines.

Content

This module focuses on spectroscopy and chromatography. You apply theory during a practical using UV-VIS spectroscopy, AES, HPLC and GC. Practical work is assessed through logbooks, results forms and practical competences, among other things. Theory is taught through instructional lectures.
