Learning outcomes

Final qualifications/competencies
The student collects and analyses data in a continuous and process-oriented manner aimed at determining the care recipients' questions and problems, and choosing appropriate care outcomes and interventions.
The student provides integral care by independently carrying out all common (including reserved and high-risk) nursing actions in low and medium-complex care situations in compliance with the applicable laws and regulations and from a holistic perspective.
The student supports the self-management of people, their relatives and their social network, with the aim of maintaining or improving daily functioning in their relation to health, illness and quality of life.
The student identifies, describes and organises the nature, duration, extent and purpose of the required (nursing) care, in consultation with the care recipient, based on diagnosed or potential, to be further investigated and diagnosed patient problems.
The student actively listens to the care recipient, informs the care recipient, enables the care recipient to make choices in care and approaches the care recipient as a unique person.
The student shows continuous sensitivity from compassion for the wishes and needs and associated emotions of the care recipient, and responds with appropriate and person-oriented behaviour in which the care recipient feels heard and understood.
The student considers his/her own behaviour in relation to the professional code and professional values.

Learning outcomes
The student is able to perform clinical reasoning and care in physical and functional patient problems in low- and medium-complex situations:
- Collect data from a care recipient
- Make nursing diagnoses
- Indicate care
- Setting nursing goals,
- Planning nursing interventions,
- Reporting and evaluating nursing care
- Carrying out nursing interventions
- Applying person-oriented communication
- Strengthening self-management
The student shows continuous sensitivity to emotions of care recipients and relatives/ demonstrates person-oriented behaviour (= core concept of moral sensitivity).
The student establishes contact, maintains contact and closes contact with an individual care recipient in low and medium-complex situations.
The student applies reflective skills and promotes his own expertise at the low and middle complex level:
- Reflecting on one's own actions
- Demonstrate active and critical behaviour to bring and maintain one's own nursing expertise up to standard
- Actively contribute to the search for new (forms of) knowledge.

The student systematically consults, in dialogue with the care recipient, on the nursing care to be provided in low and medium-complex situations. Takes the values of the care recipient into account in the decision-making process and uses various sources of knowledge. In doing so, the student supports the self-management of an individual care recipient (and their relatives) with the aim of maintaining or improving daily functioning in relation to health and illness.

Level of competence (CBN, BN2020)

Content

'Providing basic care' focuses on applying the nursing process in low- and medium-complex situations.

The 'Providing basic care' test consists of two parts, namely an appreciation by the work supervisor of functioning in the workplace in relation to the Health Care Record and an assessment of 'Report Health Care Record'. The written assessment by the work supervisor is conditional for the assessment of the 'Report Care File'. This must be assessed with a satisfactory grade.

In the professional practice, you choose a care recipient who meets the requirements of a low-complexity nursing situation. You apply the nursing process to this care recipient. You methodically determine the need for care, plan the care, perform the care, report on the care and evaluate the care. You reflect on your own actions.
You will be supervised in this by the work supervisor in practice. The way you apply the nursing process in practice is assessed by the work supervisor using a form.

You write a "Care file" report in which you describe how you used clinical reasoning to draw up a care plan for two nursing diagnoses and why certain choices were made. You also write a report in which you reflect on the product and the process.

During working group meetings, you practice the various phases of the nursing process using case histories. Methodologies and tools used in practice are compared with each other and with theory.
During practical classes and through self-study and practice in practice or in the skills lab, you learn skills related to infection prevention, physical care support, measurement of vital functions, administering medication, subcutaneous and intramuscular injections, wound care and bandage techniques.
In the communication skills lessons, you practise basic communication skills, conducting anamnesis interviews and how to formulate common goals in a conversation with care recipients.
In the reflection groups, you learn to reflect on your own actions and support others in reflecting on their actions. The aim of the reflection group is to develop a critical and analytical attitude towards your own (nursing) behaviour and that of colleagues from your own and other disciplines.
In module 1, you learn some basic reflection skills and make a start with conducting reflection meetings using a basic model for intervision. Your fellow students and you will alternately provide input that is related to the 'care file' assignment and the CanMEDs roles that are central.
