For the sub-exam 'performance test', the following learning outcomes apply:
The student can in a low-complex, simulated situation:
- provide care methodically;
- perform instrumental technical actions according to the protocols or deviate from them responsibly;
- demonstrate communication skills; also while performing instrumental technical actions.

- involve evidence in justifying his actions.
- assess the consequence(s) of the adjustment(s) for the client in the case;
- list possible adjustments to his/her actions that are consistent with proposed changes in the case;
- indicate in which direction his actions would go and why.

Content
Passing the CPR and the performance test to providing care is a prerequisite for passing the propaedeutic exam.
CPR
Through self-study, students study the background of CPR. CPR lessons are given at school including the application of the AED. These skills are tested according to CPR Council guidelines. The student receives a recognised certificate upon satisfactory assessment.
If CPR training can be taken through the workplace and tested there on BLS/AED skills, that CPR certificate can be uploaded in Blackboard.
The lessons and testing at school are only for those students, who cannot obtain their CPR certificate elsewhere.
Performance test providing care
The performance test involves the testing of competences related to acting as a professional when carrying out one or more professional tasks. The performance test consists of two parts: the performance of providing care and the interview with the examiner afterwards.
The prerequisite for taking the performance test level 1 is the skills registration card with which the student must demonstrate that these skills have been sufficiently practised. The card must contain all 16 signatures.
For the test, the student is given a patient case and instructed to provide care to the client (a simulation patient). The assignment specifies the nursing skills to be performed. Performing them involves both the instrumental-technical skill itself and performing communicative skills appropriate to the case.
The post-performance discussion with the examiner covers three topics:
There are weekly practical classes throughout the academic year. In addition, students deepen their understanding of nursing techniques through Expertcollege's e-learning modules at www.klinischredeneren.nl. During the lessons, a start can be made practising a nursing skill and theory is covered. After this lesson, the student practices independently at school or where possible at the learning workplace.
At least once during the academic year, the student asks the work supervisor at the work placement or a teacher from the academy to give feedback on the execution of an action (this is called 'guided practice') using the protocols of the e-learning modules. The student then has this signed off by the person who gave feedback.
There are also communication skills lessons in which various aspects of professional interviewing are practised. During workplace learning, the student asks work supervisor and colleagues for feedback on how to communicate with others.

- reviewing the performance,
- reaction to (fictitious) changes in the case (e.g. there is a different condition / the patient goes home, the patient transfers to another care setting),
- substantiation of the actions.
