Content

In the fourth semester you work towards your final integral assessment. This means that you as a student are in the lead and that you, together with your coaching team, shape your plans to be an engaged musician with a reflective, curious and entrepreneurial mindset. And that you can make sound and well-informed decisions for your career.

The final integral assessment can take on many forms: a concert, a lecture recital, a classical recital, an interdisciplinary performance, a workshop, an artistic presentation, combinations of all that, etc. etc. We use the word ‘demonstration’ to describe this event. You can choose any form if it allows the assessment committee to obtain a complete picture of your developed practice, and all the required competencies are addressed. This means that the demonstration is always accompanied by a portfolio that you build up throughout your studies and that an interview is always part of your final integral assessment. You design the final integral assessment in close consultation with your coaches.

CLA students are entering the final stage of their master studies. The student is in the process of creating the final form of his/her final performance that integrates all the acquired knowledge and skills of the last two years. The student is conducting him/herself on how to design this final performance and what kind of facilities and coaching are needed.

NYJ students integrate their experiences from abroad in their playing and they work on their own learning goals as described in their study plan. The lab band serves their specific learning goals. In the master ensemble 2 year students play together with 1 year students in a large ensemble setting. There are several master classes and group lessons in the NY Comes to Groningen programme.

In NAIP, the fourth semester is focused on a deeper application of all of the skills developed so far into socially engaged, communal, artistic projects. This is done through a group interdisciplinary project on a professional level, and the bringing together of all of the coursework in the student’s own artistic expression, evidenced in the final integral assessment.

There are several Electives you can choose from, based on your needs and study plan.
