Level 2: Deepening & Enriching
A sufficient level is achieved when students deliberately choose their own solutions for problems or assignments with a divergent nature, and when they demonstrate the ability to employ relevant competences, skill, and knowledge in doing so, based on research and experiment.
Learning Outcomes
LO 2: Investigate
The student develops an artistic and conceptual approach through an increasingly independent and focused process of making, reflecting, and researching, in which relevant sources, references, and contexts are examined, and first artistic concepts and propositions are articulated.
LO 3: Materialise
As part of an increasingly independent artistic process, the student purposefully engages with material, form, intuition, reflection, and contemplation, and investigates the qualities and possibilities of different materials, techniques and technologies, showing a gradual awareness of how these shape the development and meaning of their work.
Content
In Labs 3 & 4, students further develop their understanding of materiality, media, and technology by making more focused and intentional choices within their artistic practice. Students select specific materials, techniques, or visual domains to investigate in depth, starting from their own learning questions. Through iterative experimentation, they test, combine, and transform materials and processes in relation to their artistic intentions.
The Labs programme functions as a catalyst for Studio, enabling students to expand and challenge their artistic questions through material and technical exploration. Students develop more individual working methods and gain insight into how material processes contribute to meaning, form and concept.
Working with workshop specialists and artists, students deepen their technical skills while maintaining an experimental and research-oriented approach. Exchange and collaboration contribute to a shared learning environment.
The Theory component addresses contemporary material practices, technological developments, and sustainability, supporting students in making informed and responsible choices within their work.
The Labs 3 & 4 programme is offered jointly with third-year students (Labs 5).
