Learning outcomes
You develop tools to develop curiosity and play in the young child and in yourself and how to maintain and apply them in your own (educational) practice.
You learn to observe and place your observations in context in order to recognize creative moments in preschoolers.
You will learn what the value of the process of play and discovery is for preschoolers and how it contributes to the development of their creativity.
You apply educational, creative and contextual knowledge in your designs and implementation.
You investigate what a learning environment can be for the young child and investigate what it demands of you.
You contribute by adopting an enthusiastic, curious and flexible attitude in which you adopt an enterprising attitude and are open to experiment.
You work together, share your results and learn how the joint results contribute to your own development.

Content
What can you learn from, with and about preschoolers? What do art and creativity mean for the development of preschoolers? How do you, as a young adult, relate to the young child and what can you learn from the young child? How can you cultivate the curiosity that is already present, in preschoolers and in yourself?
You get to know the target group: toddlers in groups 1 and 2 of primary school. You will learn about the artistic development of young children and the role of art education in this. You are largely present in groups 1 and 2 of the primary school we work with; the Rietzee in Groningen.
Together with your fellow students, local teachers and experts, you map out how preschoolers express their curiosity, how you can stimulate their curiosity, and what obstacles there may be. Other questions you can ask are: what is the importance of play? How do preschoolers discover what is unknown to them? And what is the role of materials and how can you use materials with toddlers?
You first answer these questions by taking the time to observe children. You observe which artistic (creative) behavior young children show themselves, such as playing, exploring, trying out, experimenting.
Secondly, and partly at the same time, you explore the possibility of participation together with children. Is there room to join them? In interaction with the toddlers you play, explore and experiment together with the children.
Thirdly, you regularly speak with the teachers of the nursery groups. Guest speakers are also invited to tell you more about the world of young children. You have a contribution from your own experience as a young child.
Finally, you use all the information obtained through observation, participation and conversations to shape new opportunities in the field of play and art (e.g. activities) to awaken children's curiosity.
At Minerva you will also work with materials, try out, experiment and play with art. Collect your own work as a toddler! What do you learn from yourself as a child and from toddlers? Specialists are also invited here as guest lecturers. You expand your repertoire of actions and take that new knowledge and ideas back to primary school.
We discuss your experiences and questions through intervision sessions. Important concepts in this optional module (Off Course): playing, curiosity, the young child, creativity, unbiased viewing, participation, sensory learning.
You are in a Dutch context, at a primary school. The lessons at Minerva can be in English, at primary school the language is Dutch. No prior knowledge is necessary about art and children or education. The prerequisite is an open attitude.
The project culminates in a festival on the schoolyard of the primary school.
