Learning outcomes

This module has the following learning outcomes:

  • You will draw up and carry out a research plan, both independently and as part of a team, and apply a research strategy whilst taking into account the specific safety, environmental, hygiene and health and safety aspects.
  • You will analyse, interpret and evaluate research results obtained independently, and report and present the results through, amongst other things, progress meetings, presentations and a written professional assignment.
  • You will apply project management skills throughout the project and demonstrate this by independently formulating and defining project objectives.
  • You will set learning objectives to meet the competencies of this module and discuss these with your mentor.

Content

In this module, you will carry out a practice-oriented project in which you apply medical diagnostic techniques within a realistic professional setting. You will carry out a project at Hanze University, for example as part of one of the KCBBE’s research projects, or you will visit an external diagnostic laboratory, such as the UMCG or Certe. You will work on a medical biology research project, in which you will design, carry out and account for your research both independently and as part of a team. You will apply various laboratory techniques, work with professional equipment and carry out the analyses in accordance with applicable quality, safety and environmental standards.

You will learn to draw up a work plan, translate research questions into measurable tests, and critically analyse research results, underpinning them with relevant theory.

During the project, you will develop your research skills, learn to handle data and results with care, and become familiar with the specific working methods, responsibilities and professional ethics within the field of medical diagnostics.

The focus is also on project management, for which you will undertake a number of assignments, learning to work with others in a structured and systematic way to resolve a question or problem. You will formulate the project objective and design an approach for your research project, incorporating and describing suitable methods and techniques.
