  • The student describes and explains the basic framework for management control systems.
  • The student explains the role of budgets in overall organization plans.
  • The student explains the role of performance measures within an organisation and computes and interprets financial performance measures such as return on investment, residual income and economic value added.
  • The student computes the cost of products, taking work-in-process to account, using a relevant cost accounting system and explains the consequences of choices made.
  • The student computes and interprets sales variances, variable cost variances and fixed cost variances. Cost variances will include (amongst others) variabel overhead (price and efficiency) variances and fixed price variances.

Inhoud

This course focusses on Performance Management. It is a follow-up to Management Accounting & Control 1.
The following subjects are covered:
  • Management Control
  • Planning and budgetting
  • Performance measurement
  • Cost accounting
  • Variance analysis
Using the strategy as a starting point, an organization needs to decide on which activities it should carry out. Subjects such as planning, budgeting and cost accounting are then relevant. Subsequently it is important to measure performance to find out whether the organization is on course or if it is necessary to make adjustments. In doing so, management control, performance measurement and variance analysis play an important role.

Because an organization cannot afford to focus on numbers only, the subjects will also be highlighted from the perspective of soft controls and ethics.
