Inhoud

Enterprises do not operate isolated, but within an constantly changing environment, also known as the external or operating environment. Developments in that external environment influence the company result. The enterprises need to align their decisions to the current and future environmental developments at a strategic level.
Insight in macroeconomic developments, like the development of the business cycle, inflation, interest and the growth of world Trade is of great importance for the business management of an enterprise. Besides that it is also very important to have an insight in the changing competitive relations in their markets; which tools are used to compete, are there entry barriers, is the market cyclically sensitive, in which phase of the product life cycle is the market? When it comes to this kind of questions we talk about meso-economic analyses. The international and financial markets and institutes are also a big component of the entire financial system, which is carried by the central banks and the monetary policy.
The course International Finance & Economics 1 offers, next to a theoretical insight in the efficiency of the economy at a both macro as meso level, also an insight in the current economic developments. These are relevant for the (inter)national operating companies and in functioning of the financial markets and the role of financial institutions.
