Learning Outcomes
LILO 1: Identity of the sports professional
The sports professional uses reflection to develop their own professional identity, and so contributes to their own development and their fellow students' development
LILO 2: Research and development
The sports professional is inquisitive when it comes to sports and exercise. They work methodically under supervision and display both a healthy level of curiosity and a proactive attitude. They ask questions and analyse and interpret research results under supervision. They use the knowledge and insights they have gained to develop appropriate sports and exercise products, under supervision.
LILO 3: Coordination, positioning and supervision
The sports professional positions and supervises projects and programmes that promote sport and exercise. The sports professional implements these projects and exercise programmes, under supervision, and in doing so is able to implement or coordinate at the operational level, depending on what the situation requires.
LILO 4: Leadership, management and organisation
Within a given context, the sports professional organises adequate performance of duties (under supervision), and shows a proactive attitude while doing so.
LILO 5: Evaluation and advice
The sports professional develops, advises on, implements and evaluates sports and exercise strategies and policies, under supervision. In doing so, the sports professional manages the policy cycle with a view to safeguarding and developing the continuity and quality of the sports and exercise products as well as the organisation itself, under supervision.
Competency Level 1
Inhoud
The complex world of today consists of an enormous number of challenges and wicked problems. These complex problems are problems that are beyond the scope of any single organisation, both in terms of understanding and response. Additionally, there is often disagreement about the cause of the problems and how to address them. Wicked problems lack clarity in both their aims and solutions and are subject to real-world constraints. This means that risk-free attempts to find a solution are highly unlikely. Within the sport studies program, students will work on challenges and wicked problems and will try to solve a part of the complex issues that exist.
During this course, students will be introduced to the structure and method of working in a specific challenge and they will gain experience when it comes to working in a complex situation with many different stakeholders and target groups.
In this introductory challenge, the students will work in multidisciplinary teams on developing, organising, executing and evaluating a unique (innovative) sports experience for a specific target group. The team works according to the principles of project management, in which skills in marketing, communication, research, organisation and supervision are indispensable.
The event must be based on one of the intersections of the values of sport (economic, social or health).
In order to set up a successful event, the students will be guided by both a client and a supervisor of Sports studies. Focus points of this assessment include:
pre-event
- research
- marketing / promotion
- finance
- sponsorship
during event
- coordination
- guiding
- supervision
- leading volunteers
post event
- evaluation
- aftercare
To further enhance their professional development, students will participate in an outdoor week in the Belgian Ardennes. During this week, students will have a unique experience that includes several challenges around the topics of personal leadership and development and team building whilst participating in different outdoor activities.
