Competency Level 1

Inhoud

Sport world and Identity allows students to gain insight into the world of sport by considering the past and the ongoing challenges. Based on this knowledge they will develop themselves as sport professionals and find their orientation and identity within the world of sport.
Literature and digital knowledge sources will allow students to prepare for the seminars and the included active teaching methods such as debate, dialogue and presentation.

Central key points in this course are:
· the sport community (the broad and diverse character of sport & exercise)
· the dual nature of sport (specificity of different manifestations of sport versus the social embedding of sport)
· the issue of what is the meaning and form of expression of sport depending on the participant's motives
· (sub)cultural differences between (groups of) participants
· how sports originated over the years and have continued to evolve on many fronts

The student will also learn about the processes and developments that were behind these changes and which, among other things, led to the popularisation, differentiation, (partial) informalisation, professionalisation and commercialisation of participation in sport, the experience and organisation.

This results in an understanding of traditionally organised practice of sports (in sports clubs), commercially organised practice of sports (in fitness centres) and ‘other organised practice of sports’ (e.g. organised by oneself).

In addition to this the students learn to orientate themselves, to create and develop a professional identity regarding sport and exercise. Therefore the central key points connected to this development are:
· To understand the organization behind sports
· Orientate in the professional world of sports
· Personal preferences and development of who the student would like to be as a sports professional
