Inhoud

In the Second Year, the focus of the Studio programme is on how to make, how to research and how to present, with a strong emphasis on making and researching through studio-based learning in a hands-on studio environment. The course combines the elements Studio and Studio Classroom that are taught by a team of two professional artists and the Studio Classroom teacher.

In Studio 3 and 4, the students gain insight into making ideas and images under self-determined conditions and further develop studio practices. Students are encouraged to engage in experiment and (artistic) research, to explore and (start to) develop a personal working method, and to find/ formulate their own criteria. The Personal Development Plan (PDP) and Study Portfolio are used to organise the study.

In Studio Classroom, in semesters 3 and 4, students learn through research, reflection, and discussion how to carry out practice-based research and how to critically reflect on their studio work. A theory teacher guides students in further developing their studio documentation into a reflective practice of their own.  This reflective practice can be defined as planned and deliberate activities that engage the students in a critical manner with the relationship between conceptual, theoretical, and practical concerns in the content and context of visual art. In the Second Year, these concerns are strongly related to the themes of the Studio course. Part of the Studio Classroom is that students participate in associated reflective events, such as public lectures or seminars, symposia or artist talks.
