Inhoud

In the First Year, the focus of the Studio course is on how to make, how to research and how to present, with a strong emphasis on making through experimenting through studio-based learning in a hands-on studio environment. The course combines the elements Studio and Studio Classroom and is taught by a team of two professional artists and the Studio Classroom teacher.

In the Studio programme, students are introduced and confronted with the wide array of contemporary art and the possibilities it might offer through different studio practices. They experience that a studio is not limited to a physical space, but may be extended to a virtual space, a personal space or public space.
  • In Studio 1 in the first semester, students learn how to study and how to initiate an artistic making-process and to work in the studio and to organize their study by making a study portfolio and formulate a learning question.
  • In Studio 2 in the second semester, students learn to work independently, based on their own agenda, laid down in a Personal Development Plan (PDP).

In the Studio Classroom programme, in semesters 1 and 2, students learn through research, reflection and discussions how to carry out practice-led research and critically reflect on their studio work. A theory teacher guides students in making a start with developing their studio documentation into a reflective practice of their own. This associated reflective practice can be defined as planned and deliberate activities that engage the students in a critical manner with the relationship between conceptual, theoretical, and practical concerns in the content and context of visual art. Part of the programme is that students participate in associated reflective events, such as public lectures or seminars, symposia, or artist talks.
