  1. You know all the actors and components of the Central Dogma of Genetics and can describe what these are and what their role is.  

  1. You know the types of biological sequences, their characteristics, and their relationships.  

  1. You can understand basic concepts of laboratory "omics" techniques. 

  1. You know about the main methods used to analyse sequences.

Inhoud

Overview 
You will be introduced to basic (animal) physiology, cell biology, and molecular genetics – primarily the Central Dogma. Also, the different types of biological sequences will be introduced; their properties, and ways of analyzing them (alignment, mapping, Blast).  

Context learning line 
This is one of the three optional modules of the Preparatory course. It’s intended for students without a background in (molecular) life science (e.g. ICT students). The content provides a base for annotating and understanding biological data.
