Inhoud
The aim of the Practice-based Research (PBR) course in the Master of Music (MMus) is to learn basic research skills that help you to develop your professional music practice. When working towards performance or teaching goals several questions may emerge. These might be artistic questions or questions related to psychological or social issues. Practice-based research helps to explore such questions in a systematic way, and to reflect on the relevance of various sources for practice and research.
Therefore, the aims of the PBR course are:
In semester 2, you start exploring your research topic through the data collection method described in the research proposal and informed by several sources. During semester 2 you continue reading sources and you probably go through several cycles of action-and-reflection. At the end of semester 2, you show an overview of your research activities, which will include the research data that you have collected so far with some initial reflections on the findings. If you have changed your plans, you also describe and explain these changes and the research plans for the next semester (if applicable).
There are several Electives you can choose from, based on your needs and study plan.
Therefore, the aims of the PBR course are:
- To develop research skills as tools for the development of practice
- To develop professional music practice using a research-informed approach
- How to form useful research questions
- How to conduct a literature search that informs your research project
- How to conduct your research in a systematic way using an appropriate methodology
- How to analyse the information that you find in your research
- How to share your research findings with others in writing and speaking
