Content
The course professional development has two components: creative space/free choice and the contribution to Professional Development Day.
Professional Development Day (1 ec)
Professional development Day is a moment that takes place twice a year for every student. During this day the professional and personal development of the student is discussed in relation to the defined learning outcomes per academic year. The aim is to provide an insight into the student's development and to recognize any difficulties and/or stagnation.
Free choice of space (1 ec)
For each student there is 1 credit per year for free choice. This concerns activities that are not part of the regular program. Activities that the student can do are, for example: attending extra lectures relevant to the study, attending workshops, participating in a competition or conducting research (under supervision).
The student discusses the possible content of the free choice with his or her mentor during Professional Development Day or in a personal meeting. The student explains what kind of activity is involved, why it is relevant for his own development (as an architect) and what the learning goals are. The result will be presented to the student during the last Professional Development Day.
Working method
Professional Development Day is meant for the student and helps him to answer the following questions:
- What have I done in my study and in the practice in the past period?
- Where do I stand in my development compared to this year's learning outcomes?
- What is going well and what is not (yet) going well?
- What are the steps I can take to further develop myself?
The student presents himself and talks about the above points on the basis of his own work. The presentation is given in the students mentor group. In addition to peer feedback, a committee - consisting of at least two members - gives feedback on the personal and professional development of the student. One of the two members is the mentor who follows the student for a longer period of time in the study, so that the total development line of the student during the study is also guaranteed.
The presentation is free of form; the interpretation is up to the student himself.  The work that can be presented could consist of  the last studio (work) regardless of the end result and/or important recent developments/projects/aspects in the student's practice.
There is also the opportunity to bring in other aspects relating to personal and professional development, such as extra-curricular activities or companies, in the broadest sense of the word.
Assessment
The assessment is based on the presentation and a reflection report. The first Professional Development Day that takes place after the end of the research studio and is seen as a preparation moment (formative test) for the last Professional Development Day at the end of the academic year. The final assessment of the course takes place at the end of the academic year (summative assessment).
