Minor Urban Regeneration
Urban Regeneration is about renewing and improving existing urban areas, with the aim of strengthening livability, the local economy, and spatial quality. During this minor, you will work on a specific area facing challenges related to livability, future resilience, and the needs of its users. Your goal is to give this area a new impulse and make it more resilient to future developments.

After a short introduction period, during which you get to know your fellow students and complete a first urban regeneration exercise, you will start working on the central question:

How do we design and organise a future-proof built environment that meets the needs of its users?

By the end of this minor, you will be able to answer this question independently.

Social & Spatial Research
This course is divided in Project 1 and Portfolio 1.

Project 1:
In this phase, you will learn how to analyse an area and engage with residents and users, examining a case study from both spatial and social perspectives. You analyse spatial, social, and economic characteristics, map stakeholders and their interests, and clearly identify the core problem. By working with designs, concepts, visualisations, and interviews, you develop the ability to systematically analyse and evaluate issues and to justify your decisions. You also assess the consequences of (not) intervening.

Throughout the process, you collaborate constructively, take responsibility for both process and outcomes, and work together to develop supported solutions under coaching supervision.

You are supported through (guest) lectures, tutorials, design sessions, fieldwork, and excursions.

Portfolio 1:
In this phase, you actively work on your professional development. You explore your ambitions and development needs and translate them into concrete learning goals. You critically reflect on your own actions, values, and role within a team, and use this to support your growth.

In addition, you learn to compare your own work with that of others and connect different perspectives. This helps you develop interdisciplinary insights and better understand and utilise the value of diverse viewpoints.
