Format and assessment:
- Preparation and workshops. Students can obtain the credits If all preparations have been completed at a sufficient level and all classes have been taken. If these criteria have not been met at the end of the series of workshops, students can take an oral exam to prove their skills.
- High-level English for engineers aims to improve the students’ communication by shifting from functional to persuasive and precise, industry-specific language. Targeted professional communication will focus on learning how to deal with workplace-related skills, such as negotiating specifications, explaining complex systems clearly without using overly technical jargon, presenting to executives, describing cause and effect, defining failure consequences, outlining manufacturing processes, discussing project constraints, timelines, and resources with management or contractors and managing client expectations.
- Cultural and professional fluency is required to participate and lead international teams. Learning how to diplomatically challenge a co-worker or client, without sounding aggressive or admissive. Practical skills like knowing how to interrupt politely, taking the floor during global cross-functional meetings.
- Pronunciation mistakes that are typically made by Dutch speakers of English will be addressed to minimize a Dutch accent when speaking English.
