Learning outcomes

The graduate of the Bachelor of Laws programme can demonstrate the ability to:

Analysis

  • drawing up a problem analysis based on information from the professional field;

  • drawing up a research outline based on the analysis of the issue;

  • establishing in how far legislature, theoretic viewpoints and results of existing research will affect the research;

  • making an adequate selection of research methods and skills and applying them independently within a neatly arranged setting of practice-oriented research;

  • analysing research results in order to reach conclusions and come up with recommendations;

  • taking up a researcher’s attitude.

Decisions

  • comparing various working methods;

  • making choices within the discretionary space available;

  • applying and underpinning the various working methods in complex (practical) situations;

  • coming to a decision in this complex social-judicial context based on a consideration of the interests of several parties and other people involved.

Consultancy

  • drawing up advice based on the conclusions of research by means of realistic recommendations to enable the client’s goal to be achieved;

  • drawing up advice practicable to professionals;

  • drawing up advice that meets the level of the professional practice in terms of language quality;

  • formulating advice in the form of recommendations to prevent future problems in the professional practice;

  • providing advice regarding the implementation of recommendations to prevent problems in the professional practice.

Promotion of interests

  • analysing opposing interests at several levels;

  • distinguishing types of promotion of interests;

  • promoting the interests of one’s client or organization in complex situations;

  • assessing in complex situations whether mediation should be deployed and, if so, what kind of mediation it should be. Subsequently, applying and underpinning it.

Quality care

  • performing research into the quality of work processes and professional products and assessing these in view of relevant legislature. Subsequently drawing up improvement plans and contributing to the quality of work;

  • critically investigating a complex problem in a methodical manner and subsequently underpinning one’s conclusion;

  • working with the client follow-up systems of the organization;

  • being accountable for the accessibility, correctness and completeness of the files, and adding additional and relevant information;

  • critically looking at the client follow-up system and file management within an organization;

  • developing written products which are correct both grammatically and spelling-wise and which are demonstrably target group oriented;

  • processing a caseload that is common for a starting professional in the field.

Collaboration

  • recognising an individual client’s potential (capacities) as well as the possibilities of the situation/organization in the social-judicial practice;

  • deploying the correct intervention(s) to utilise the client’s potential as well as the possibilities of the situation/organization;

  • evaluating and reflecting on one’s behaviour and the effectiveness of a specific intervention;

  • achieving organizational objectives together with other professionals and reviewing these objectives critically;

  • receiving feedback from other professionals proactively and providing feedback to other professionals;

  • expanding one’s range of actions on the basis of this feedback;

  • utilising reflection as a means to enhance one’s personal professional development by means of self-assessment.
