The Bachelor degree programme Social Legal Services comprises a programme of 240 ECTS credits (a first-year programme of 60 ECTS credits and a main phase programme of 180 ECTS credits).
The degree programme comprises a major and a minor. The major is composed of compulsory and elective units. The minor may be chosen by the student and allows him or her to specialise in a chosen field or to broaden his/her generic or subject-specific knowledge and skills. The degree programme is practice-orientated: a work placement / work placements (30 - 45 ECTS credits) and other practical components, in addition to a thesis project (15 - 30 ECTS credits), form an essential and compulsory part of this degree programme.
The degree programme equips the student with the competences required of a professional in the field of Social Legal services. These are:
- Analysing and information processing of social legal problems
- Decision-taking based on legal arguments, personal circumstances and social factors
- Advising based on (legal) diagnose and provisional decisions
- Promotion of legal interests of others
- Negotiation and mediation in a (legal) dispute
- Managing legal files
- Having a preventive approach
- Coaching individuals or groups in order to realise their self-reliance
Graduates of the Bachelor programme Social Legal Services are broad-based Bachelors of Laws; they are paralegals with a broad knowledge of national, international and European law. They have the ability to communicate both orally and in writing about these law systems.
