Learning outcomes
- The student calculates the external loads of a construction using a FBD.
- The student calculates the internal stress in a construction.
- The students explains whether the occurring stress in/on a construction (or part of a construction) is allowable.
Content
In this subject you will learn the following question in a structured manner: “Is a part strong enough under this load?”
The core of this subject is concerned with schematizing everyday situations and constructions. This means calculating and showing the external forces and moments in a FBD. In addition, this subject covers how external forces can be converted to internal forces and stresses, which can answer the question of whether a part is strong enough.
Keywords: schematizing, FBD, statics, allowable stress.
