Learning outcomes

After finishing this module the student:
  • does engineering calculations on load carrying constructions
  • does engineering calculations on several connections types
  • does calculations on shafts, including fatigue and safety factors
  • does calculations on stiffness and play
  • does calculations on torque, velocity and power
  • explains differences between transmission types and does engineering calculations on these
  • does engineering calculations on bearings
  • makes technical sketches (dimetric, isometric) and 3D piping models

Content

The 4 EC module Design and Engineering II builds upon Design and Engineering I. After finishing this module students are able to develop a conceptual design in a systematic way. The following topics are addressed in engineering a conceptual design: load carrying constructions, connections, shafts, fatigue, safety factors, stiffness and play, torque, velocity, power, transmissions, bearings. Also technical sketches (dimetric, isometric) and 3D piping are covered topics.
