Content
The graduation project is the final component of the programme. You will independently carry out a graduation project at a company, hospital, university or research institute. You will work under the supervision of a company supervisor. The graduation project consists of a research project in which you will demonstrate the final competencies associated with the programme. The graduation project is carried out in the second half of year 4. In consultation with the mentor and internship coordinator, a different period is possible. This period consists exclusively of the graduation project of 30 EC.
For information about the internship and graduation, the Brightspace course “Internship and Graduation” is available. OnStage is used as a tracking and administration system. https://OnStage.xebic.com.
The graduation project lasts 20 weeks and is structured as follows: weeks 1-2, writing the Plan of Approach; weeks 2-18, carrying out the graduation project; weeks 17-20, completing the portfolio and defending the graduation project. Halfway through the period, a Midterm Review is planned with the student, internship supervisor and contact lecturer.
The graduation project is assessed on the final competences and levels as described for the bioinformatics programme. Students must demonstrate that they meet these competences by submitting a portfolio with fixed and free components. Together with an oral defence, the portfolio is assessed by two examiners for a final assessment.
The competencies that must be mastered by the student are:
1. Research (O; 3); the student translates a problem into a research strategy and carries out the research.
2. Experimentation (E; 3); the student sets up experiments under supervision, carries them out independently and systematically, and obtains reproducible and reliable results.
3. Management (M; 2); the student assesses their own work or that of others against procedures described in relevant management systems.
4. Advising (A; 2); the student contributes to solving a technical problem for the client. Independently provides advice in a non-complex situation.
5. Instructing (I; 1); The student passes on his or her own knowledge and skills to employees on request (by demonstrating and explaining).
6. Project-based working (P; 2); The student works on a project within a limited open project framework.
7. Self-management (Z; 2); The student reflects on their own performance and development.
The above competencies have different levels, which can be described using the following keywords as a measure of behaviour:
Level 1: executing, on instruction
Level 2: solving, analysing
Level 3: integrating, developing, transferring knowledge and skills
(application of knowledge and skills in new situations)
Level 4: generating knowledge
For each competency, the level that must be achieved at that moment is indicated.
