Course Learning Outcomes
The student visualizes concepts and constructs a product, which is related to relevant theory, developments, and the needs of the users.
The student analyzes different tools and chooses and masters an appropriate tool to create a solution.
The student reframes new technological trends and models and envisions a future opportunity.
The student analyzes different lenses and frameworks and makes choices to create a vision and a design of the future of the chosen topic.
Inhoud
In this course, students explore how technological developments have an influence on society and vice versa. By doing research, concept, and design, they create both a prototype with new technologies and a learning experience of the process and prototype. Topics such as philosophy and ethics will be covered and connected to become more futures literate. It is for the student to understand, interpret, and to reflect on the latest developments concerning technology and society. The aim of this course is for students to ‘design for debate’ by applying technologies into their design that are novel that serves as a mean to initiate the debate about the impact of technology on society. During the course students work individually so they can all develop their technical and Futures Literacy skills, starting from their own level with the goal to get on a higher level.
Assignments
For the future course there are two assignments:
Artefact from the future
Students use different lenses to form a vision on the future of a certain topic or area. For this future, students design an artefact that reflects their vision on this future to make it tangible.
Tutorial for a new technology
Students create a tutorial for someone of their own level of skill to start using a technology the student did not master before.
The form of the tutorial is up to the student (written, video, interactive, …).
