Leeruitkomsten

Design
The starting professional considers various solutions in order to arrive at a detailed and well-founded (electro)technical product/service/process based on the program of requirements, using appropriate design methods and taking social interests and engineering standards into account.

Definition
The starting professional uniformly maps out a problem or customer need, places it in the right context, consults relevant sources and converts this into an objective, problem definition and electrotechnical requirements.

Inhoud

In this module different types of industrial sensors and actuators, their working principles, specifications and applications in the context of mechatronics and industrial projects are treated.

Professional Products

  • Specifications of a mechatronic (partial) product – Detailed descriptions of the properties, functionalities, dimensions, performance, materials, behaviour, components and interfaces of a system that integrates mechanical, electrical, and software elements. They indicate exactly how the product must be designed, built and function in order to meet the stated requirements.
In this module: Industrial Sensor, actuator and motor specifications

Skills

  • Selection of mechatronic components – The process of identifying and choosing suitable mechanical, electrical, and electronic parts—such as sensors, actuators, motors, and controllers—based on system requirements, performance criteria, compatibility, cost, and reliability to ensure optimal integration and functionality within a mechatronic system. In this module: selection of sensors, actuators and motors
  • Handling technical documentation – The ability to understand, correctly apply, and, when necessary, update or create technical manuals, specifications, schematics, and other technical documents to ensure effective communication and execution of technical tasks.

Knowledge

  • Sensors – Devices that detect and measure physical quantities and convert them into signals that can be read and processed by electronic systems. Key aspects include operating principles and application in a broad range of fields including mechanical, industrial, medical, chemical, biological applications.
  • Actuators – Devices that receive control signals and convert them into physical movement or force to perform mechanical actions within a system. Key aspects include energy conversion principles (typically electrical, hydraulic, or pneumatic), motion types (linear or rotary), and application across fields such as mechanical, industrial, medical, and robotic systems.
  • Hydraulics and pneumatics – Technologies that use fluids to transmit power and perform mechanical work. Hydraulics involves the use of pressurized liquids (typically oil) for precise, high-force applications, while pneumatics uses compressed air or gas for fast, lower-force operations.
  • Servo and Stepper motors – Types of electric motors used for precise motion control. Stepper motors move in fixed steps and are ideal for open-loop control systems requiring accurate positioning. Servo motors use feedback to continuously adjust position, speed, or torque, making them suitable for high-performance, closed-loop applications in robotics, automation, and CNC systems.
