Learning outcomes
After finishing this module the student:
- describes the machining operations turning, milling, drilling, thread-cutting and the associated tools
- selects, on the basis of a given technical drawing, material, type of cutting material, and type of processing, the following data from tables: feed, cutting speed, specific cutting force and tool life
- calculates, for the turning operation, with the above data, the following parameters; depth of cut, speed, processing time, the main cutting force and the net power required
- calculates, for the milling operation, with the above data, the following parameters; depth of cut, speed, processing time
- derives the cost price of turning and milling operations
Content
In this module the student gets insight into the manufacturing of products by means of various machining processes, techniques and equipment. The student determines or calculates the most important parameters of the machining operations turning, milling, drilling, thread cutting, and derives the corresponding operation times and costs.
