Competences

  • Connecting to the Environment
  • Research & Reflection
  • Artic Creation

Level 1: Orientation
A sufficient level is achieved when students demonstrate an insight into the nature of the profession, the significance of experimentation and research in acquiring the provided knowledge and skills and a potential for the ongoing acquisition of competencies.

Learning Outcomes
LO 1: Relate
The student notices and initially engages with sensations, perceptions, intuitions, environments, and social contexts, recognizing them as potential starting points for artistic work.

LO 2: Investigate
The student explores an artistic approach through a guided process of making, reflecting, and investigating given sources, references, and contexts, and formulates initial investigative artistic ideas.

LO 3: Materialise
As part of a guided process, the student explores material, form, intuition, reflection, and contemplation, and experiments with materials, techniques, and technologies, shaping an emerging understanding of their properties and effects.

Inhoud

In the first year, Studio introduces students to artistic practice as an exploratory, research-driven, and reflective process. Working in a studio-based environment, students develop fundamental skills in artistic creation, investigation, and positioning through making, experimenting, and reflecting. Students explore a wide range of contemporary artistic practices and learn to understand the studio as a flexible space: physical, social, and contextual.

In Studio 1, the emphasis is on orientation: initiating a work process, experimenting with approaches to making, and formulating initial artistic questions. Students begin to document their process and develop a study portfolio.

In Studio 2, students gradually take more ownership of their learning process. They work consistently with a Study Plan, learning to make choices, set directions, and reflect on their development.

The Theory component supports this process through practice-led research, critical reflection, and dialogue. Students learn to connect making with thinking, engage with multiple perspectives, and articulate their work in relation to artistic, social and ecological contexts. Participation in lectures, discussions, and public events introduces students to contemporary discourse and supports the development of an emerging artistic position.
