We educate students of Fine Arts to investigate, represent and articulate their view of the world, to manifest their artistic work in this same world, and to demonstrate knowledge of and feeling for the context of their artistic calling. This is a Bachelor’s degree with a professional orientation that strongly emphasizes the autonomy of the visual artist. In the studio-based programme students choose to devote themselves fully to exploring their own imagination and fascinations in an international context and community. They determine which artistic domain(s) to conquer and what medium(s) to focus on, whether that is painting, drawing, graphics or photography, sculpture, electronic media, installation or any other medium. Familiarization with the professional practice in all its facets is central to this course. This approach entails intensive mentoring from a variety of teachers and specialists in their field. The programme is fully taught in English and is open to international students. The programme offers a wide range of electives, projects, exhibitions, excursions, access to technical workshops, an optional exchange semester and an honours programme for excellent students.
The Bachelor degree programme Fine Art comprises 240 ECTS credits (a first-year programme of 60 ECTS credits and a main phase programme of 180 ECTS credits).
The degree programme is composed of compulsory units and elective units. Main components of the programme are visual arts, research and reflection. An exchange semester abroad is optional.
The degree programme equips the student with the competences required of a professional in the field of Fine Art.
These are:
- ARTISTIC CREATION
- RESEARCH AND REFLECTION
- CONNECTING WITH THE ENVIRONMENT
- WORKING IN A PRACTICE
Students of the degree programme in Fine Art develop their skills towards becoming professional visual artists. Their ability to provide independent, critical and inventive contributions to the professional field and to appreciate what this means to society is improved. The programme focuses on what students want to express, their ability to critically reflect and their theoretical and historical knowledge of art. This determines what techniques and materials are used. Works of art are not necessarily material objects, but can also be processes, or materialised or verbalised concepts that are related to images. In the final year of the study programme, students complete a five month graduation project, compile a professional portfolio and organise a presentation of their work.
